Northstar Healthcare’s CEO, Dr. Donald Kramer, was selected as one of Becker’s ASC Review’s “100 Physician Leaders to Know in the ASC Industry”.

The list consists of ambulatory surgery center physician owners, operators and corporate leaders who have distinguished themselves and made significant contributions to the industry.

Several of these physicians are pioneers in the ASC center industry and have spent tireless hours promoting the growth and reputation of their companies on a local and national level. The physicians are highlighted not only for their clinical expertise, but also vision and leadership in providing a high quality, low cost option for healthcare.

“Steven Kern, MD, FACS, is the medical director of North Memorial Ambulatory Surgery Center in Maple Grove, Minn. He also serves as a board member of Surgical Management Professionals. Dr. Kern is a board-certified general surgeon. He earned his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha and completed his residency at the University of Kansas in Wichita. He also serves as chief of surgery at Maple Grove Hospital. Dr. Kern has a special interest in thyroid surgery.

Lawrence Kim, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist with South Denver Gastroenterology. He earned his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. He completed his residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and underwent his fellowship training at the University of California in San Francisco. Dr. Kim serves on the governing board of the American Gastroenterologist Association. In 2004, he became the first gastroenterologist to join the board of directors of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. He is also an AAAHC surveyor. Dr. Kim is active in the American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.

Lawrence Kosinski, MD, MBA, is a board-certified gastroenterologist with Elgin (Ill.) Gastroenterology. He is a managing partner of Illinois Gastroenterology Group, which includes seven endoscopy centers. He performs procedures at Algonquin Road Surgery Center in Lake in the Hills, Ill., and Elgin (Ill.) Gastroenterology Endoscopy Center. He serves on the board of directors for Sherman Hospital and as a member of the advisory board of the Illinois Health Information Exchange. Dr. Kosinski is the chair of the American Gastroenterological Association Practice Management and Economics Committee. He earned his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Ill. He completed his residency and two fellowships with Loyola University.

Donald Kramer, MD, is founder of Northstar Healthcare and spent the past 20 years founding numerous healthcare businesses, including 30 outpatient surgery centers. He developed Omniplus Healthcare in 1995 and Access MediQuip in 1996. Prior to retiring from his clinical anesthesia practice in 2007, he founded Palladium for Surgery-Houston which became the cornerstone for Northstar Healthcare.

Richard Kube, MD, is founder of Prairie Spine & Pain Institute and Prairie SurgiCare in Peoria, Ill. He is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon and has a special interest in motion preservation techniques. He has made more than 20 international presentations during his career and serves as a faculty member at the University of Illinois School of Medicine in Peoria. He is a member of several professional societies, including the American College of Spine Surgery and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.”
